Criteria for Student Council

All nominees for homeroom representatives and alternate representatives shall be screened to determine that they meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must have an 80% average for the previous year’s work.

  2. Shall have only a limited number of referrals.

  3. Shall be considered of good character and shall be a good citizen of Maryvale Middle School.

In order to remain in office, the elected representatives shall:

  1. Attend Student Council meetings.

  2. Serve on at least one committee.

  3. Participate in all fund raising projects and community service events.

  4. Report information of the previous Student Council meeting to homeroom members.

  5. Obtain ideas from homeroom members for discussion at meetings.

The alternate representative will be the student receiving the second highest number of votes in each homeroom election and shall be prepared to assume the duties of the elected representative should the elected representative be unable to perform.

Members-at-Large -In addition to a representative and alternate elected by homeroom students, students at every grade level may voluntarily join the Student Council. They will be named “Members-at-Large”. They must:

  1. Participate in all fund raising projects and community service events.

  2. Serve on at least one committee.

  3. Have the power to vote.

  4. Meet the same qualifications as elected homeroom representatives and alternates.
