Budget Vote and Board Member election

Dear Maryvale Community,

Our Budget vote and Board member election will be held exclusively by absentee ballot this year.  Absentee ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters in the Maryvale UFSD on May 22nd, 2020 and they must be returned via the pre-paid envelope provided no later than June 9th, 2020 at 5PM.

The details are below:

1. Maryvale will hold it's annual budget hearing on Monday, June 1st at 6PM via Google Meet.  The public can submit comments/questions to Carol Janis at janis@maryvaleufsd.org prior to the meeting.  The hearing can be accessed here: https://youtu.be/5mLNTL6ug6E

2. The only proposition on the ballot this year is asking voters to adopt the budget for the 2020-2021 school year.  The proposed budget results in a tax levy increase of 1.79% that is within the tax cap.

  • The proposed budget maintains all existing programs for students, but due to the reduced State aid Maryvale will receive, it includes a reduction of two elementary teaching positions, one teacher aide position and one central office clerical position.

3. There are two candidates running for a single (5) five-year term on the Board of Education to commence on July 1, 2020.  Voters will select one candidate. Those candidates are:

  • Craig Meyers

  • Jennifer Pilarski

Again, absentee ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters in the Maryvale UFSD on May 22nd, 2020 and they must be returned via the pre-paid envelope provided no later than June 9th, 2020 at 5PM.
