Art Place Home Page - About the Teacher
Welcome to your Art Place! This site is designed to enhance your art experience with information, interactive activities, and of course, lots and lots of technology!
My name is Mrs. DiGiacomo and I teach art at Maryvale High School. I am very excited to be part of the "Home of the Flyers" and I am looking forward to the school year! This year, I am teaching Ceramics, Art Experience and Media Arts.
As a child, I was always hiding somewhere with a pencil and paper, sketching, dreaming, and getting lost in the world of art. After a high school major of Advertising Art, I decided to dedicate my collegiate studies to Art Education at Buffalo State College. I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Buffalo State, and completed a year-long National Student Exchange at California State University of Northridge.
I have taught high school art for 16 years, within subjects ranging from basic Studio in Art and Design courses to Advanced Painting and Sculpture. I operate a graphic design business independently, and my personal artwork focuses on printmaking, drawing, and non-traditional materials, and I love contemporary artists like Eva Hesse, Sandy Skoglund, Chuck Close, Jennifer Steinkamp, John Armleder, as well as historical masters like Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, and Salvador Dali.
In my personal time, I LOVE to travel. I think traveling is the gateway to growth, compassion, and understanding...of ourselves and the world around us! I have been throughout the United States and Canada, as well as Italy, England, Spain, Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, Portugal and most recently India and the Eastern Caribbean, but my favorite place in the world is definitely New York City! I also love to read (all kinds of books), attend musical and theatre productions and listen to music. I have two beautiful children, 6 and 4, who keep me very busy in my time at home, as well as being an owner advocate, foster parent and general lover of the American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull) breed.
