Dear Maryvale Community,
The Governor's proposed budget falls short of providing an adequate level of support to enable Maryvale to maintain current programs and services.
From the time of the Great Recession until now, the State has withheld $35.9 million from Maryvale ($24,084,059 in Foundation Aid and $11,785,215 in GEA).
We have suffered deep cuts to program and personnel and we are faced with another challenging budget for 16-17 where we are trying to provide the best programming for our students.
Ending the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) completely this year and re-starting and increasing Foundation Aid are our top priorities for relief. The GEA was enacted to help the State fill its Budget gap, which is now non-existent. Foundation Aid was enacted in 2007 as a response to a successful challenge to the constitutionality of the State’s system of school finance. Foundation Aid is the primary source of general purpose operating aid to schools.
We need your help to advocate to our legislators that they end the GEA completely and re-start and increase Foundation Aid.
Please take a look at the links on this page for some talking points and tips on how to engage your legislator.
